the primer gallery

A primer is a base, a foundation. It's a place to start. It's the small thing that leads to big things.

We call ourselves "The Primer Gallery" because we want to be the place to start.

We believe this is a safe place to show your first pieces. This is the place where you introduce yourself to the world as an artist. Where you learn about the relationship between the gallery and the artist.

want to be in a group show?

We are on the lookout for artists to participate in group shows. To be included on our "Call for Artists" emails, please complete the form below.

Remember to include your social media links so we can see your work. We prefer artists with a prescence on social media, however, in lieu of your social media, you can email examples of your work to popabcstore@gmail.com with your name and contact information.

proposals?

The Primer Gallery is excited to accept exhibition proposals for one of our four quarterly shows.

While we are interested in artists and curators at any stage in their career, we are especially excited to receive submissions from new and nascent professional artists and curators that may not have worked with a gallery before.

Any media will be considered but we typically accept paintings, drawings and prints. All artwork must conform to current copyright standards. Artwork that is assisted by artificial intelligence will not be considered under any circumstances.

Please submit your proposal, a brief artist statement, a link to your social media and at least two sample thumbnails of your work (.jpg preferred) to popabcstore@gmail.com with the subject line "Primer".

Artist and curators with a social media presence are given preferential treatment.

Selected artists and curators will be contacted directly. The gallery will not contact applicants unless they have been selected. Submission of work does not guarantee selection.

the director

Craig Duster is The Director of The Primer Gallery and the owner and Head Ne'er-Do-Well of POP! Art Books Culture.

Craig has worked for notable galleries including Denver's Sally Centigrade (now UHF Gallery) and the Incredible Art Gallery. He is the curator of the gallery shows "Unpinned: The Modern Pin-Up" in Colorado and "Windows" in Ohio.

Craig believes that most people wait to talk rather than listen, that you should never wear jeans on a first date, that graphic novels are literature and that the electoral college is a joke.
